The Great Fire of London.

In history this week we have been finding out about the Great Fire of London that happened in 1666.
It has been really interesting finding out about how people lived in the past. The people lived in houses made of timber and their roofs were made of straw. They were able to shake hands with their neighbours if they leaned out the windows because the city was so cramped.

In class we have been making houses to create a London City centre. I hope the everyone remembers to put their fires out at night before they go to sleep......

Let's multiply

Over the next couple of weeks we will be looking at multiplication. We are learning the x2, x5 and x10 times table.
First of all we are learning about multiplication as repeated addition.

We had to choose a number and sort them into groups of 2, 5 or 10 and then write the repeated addition.

On Friday 2JH and some children from 2AH went to South Shore Fire Station and had a fantastic time. The fireman men showed us around their station where they sleep, eat and relax...
They went down the fire mans pole....
Mrs Brown even went down the pole.
We also found out all about the fire engines....
After we went outside to spray the water hoses....
We had a brilliant afternoon and the children had so much fun!

Thank you very much South Shore Fire Station

Park view

Year 2 have visited Park View this week to have a look at living things in their habitat. We had great fun in the vegetable garden and in the woods.
When we were in the woods we collected lots of leaves, fruits and seeds. In class we have sorted through all the leaves and matched them to their seeds or fruits.

How do you know I am alive?

In science this term we are finding out about living things. First we had to think about what we need to stay alive and then we looked at plants and snails to see whether we needed similar things.
We found out that we needed some of the same things as plants and snails.
Can you list the things we need to keep us alive?

Sports Day!

Even though we did not have a great start to the day with the weather, it ended up being a fantastic Sports Day in Key Stage 1.

To start the day off the children worked together as a team to design a house mascot. The mascots were brilliant!!

The children then took part in Sprint Races, Egg and Spoon races and finally the Sack Race.

Next we had an awards assembly for everyone that took part.
The Egg and Spoon Race Winners.
 The Sack Race Winners.
The Sprint Race Winners.

Finally we finished off the day with our own Commonwealth Sports where the children visited each class in Key Stage 1 to experience different activities.

It has been a very bust day today in Key Stage 1 and we are already for a relaxing weekend.
