What a busy term!

Well Year 2 have had a very busy term learning all about the sea! We have finished the term off with making some patchwork patterns. We learnt how to sew a run stitch and also found out about the artist Kaffe Fassett who makes patchwork. Here are some of his designs:

We designed our own designs based on Kaffe Fassett work......

We also made our own patch works.....

Have a great half term and see you back in school on Tuesday 5th November.

2JH's Island Adventure Assembly

Thank you to all the parents that came and watched the assembly today. The children did so well and really enjoyed themselves. Mrs Barrot and Miss Hatton are very proud of them. Thank you for your support.
I hope Big Bad Blackbeard doesn't come back to 2JH and get the three little pirates!

The children are looking forward to making information books about the different sea creatures.

Building a shelter

We had great fun pretending to be shipwrecked pirates. The playground didn't have any branches and palm trees to use for a shelter so we had to use a beach shelter.

First we had to fix the poles together and then we spread out the cover.

Mr. Stanier helped to thread the poles through the material and then we worked together to fix the poles in place.

All finished and time to try it out!

Shipwrecked

Today we had to find the best material for our shelters on the island. We decided that we needed a waterproof shelter to keep us dry. When we went looking for materials to build our shelters with we found tissue paper, sticks and plastic bags. We needed to find out which material was waterproof so we carried out and experiment.

We found out that the plastic was the best material to build our shelters out of.
This week we will also be building our shelters.

Materials

Over the past couple of weeks we have been looking at different materials. We went on a material hunt around the school to see what we could find.
We then had to sort materials into man made or natural groups.
Can you name some natural and man made materials?
